Today in Sunday School, our teacher gave a very powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon. We talked the whole time about how it can help us in our lives.
He shared this thought by President Benson
The Book of Mormon … was written for our day. The Nephites never had the book; neither did the Lamanites of ancient times. It was meant for us. … Each of the major writers of the Book of Mormon testified that he wrote for future generations. … If they saw our day and chose those things which would be of greatest worth to us, is not that how we should study the Book of Mormon? We should constantly ask ourselves, ‘Why did the Lord inspire Mormon (or Moroni or Alma) to include that in his record? What lesson can I learn from that to help me live in this day and age?’
(in Conference Report, Oct. 1986, 5; or Ensign, Nov. 1986, 6).
I really like that! The other day I was reading in the book of Enos, where he prayed all night and into the next day. And one of the things he prayed for was that if his people should go astray that somehow the Lord would preserve the scriptures for the people at a later date. It just made me feel grateful for Enos and more grateful for the Book of Mormon.
One challenge our teacher made was to really seriously study the Book of Mormon and notice (and write down) how it affects your life. I really want to do that. It is such a wonderful book. I love it!!

Hi Holly,
I’m a Holly too and I’m also LDS.
I found your post through my Google Alerts on my blog name and had to stop by. I too enjoyed our lesson Sunday on the introduction to the Book of Mormon. What struck me was President Benson pointing out the message behind the fact that the Book of Mormon was the FIRST thing brought to pass with the restoration. Knowing what things are necessary for our eternal salvation one might have put restoring the Priesthood or temple ordinances at the top of the list, but the translation and publication of the Book of Mormon happened before the Church was even organized. I loved pondering that deeper layer of meaning. I too have a goal to really study it this year because I need all those wonderful promised blessings!!
Hugs,
Holly

Hi Holly!
Thank you for your good comment. Somehow I didn’t really catch that part of the lesson. That is really significant. I sure do love the Book of Mormon. I feel so much peace when I study it. I enjoyed looking at your blog, too. You have lots of fun pictures!
